Catching up…

9 Sep

Hey guys,

It’s been a while! What’s going on in my world?? Well for starters I’ve moved on to a new job. I am now a Digital Producer at Citadel Broadcasting for WPLJ FM (since July). It’s a different vibe for me. Where as all of my previous positions I was surrounded by urban music, culture, and directly in the mix of everything “happening”. Now I find myself really behind the scenes. Here it’s less about the entertainment and culture and all about the money. Sometimes I think I work in Ad Sales versus the viral world. But nonetheless, I have a great boss and I work with an amazing team. Overall, though it is different I love it, and I am grateful. I am secretly mapping out how I can effect change here and really bring the “Lifestyle” into our content and the office. Stay Tuned for that.

I have also been working with my Non-Profit Organization,America’s Behaved Children. I am working on our end of the year calendar. Great things are in the works. Be sure to check out the site: abc-inc.org

Other than that, I’ve been good. Just working and strategizing. I will be sure to check in more often.

With Love,

Nell

Hey Guys!!

17 May

Hey Guys.

I have been busy on my manuscript lately. I decided that it was time for me to really focus on my dream and make it happen. So excuse me for my neglect. :-)

One of my favorite authors, Terry McMillian has a quote written on her site. It reads: “Write as if no one is going to read it. It will liberate you. Then go back and start over.” These words has literally changed my life.

I want to be a writer because I have so much that I want to say to people. However, we live in an emotional world. You can’t always say or do as you feel. Sometimes you have no choice but to speak as you are expected to speak and act as you are expected to act, in order to spare the feelings of the ones around you. Well through my writing I found that I was able to act however I wanted through my characters. I was able to speak the way I wanted. I was able to say all the things I wanted to say to the people who I wanted to hear it. Through my words, characters, their actions, and reactions I deliver a message. A message that I pray touches the right person in all the right ways.

Writing is my therapy. So I vowel to write as if I have no audience. I will indeed be liberated. Hopefully you will to as you read through my pages.

Look my for book, coming soon. It is untitled as of right now. However, once I choose a title I promise that you guys will be the first to know.

I am Linguistic LOVE.

Peace <3

Sweet and Sour

4 Mar

I’ve always said that if things came easy then it wouldn’t be my life. I was always the kid who had to go the extra mile to reach my destination. While I use to complain about my torturous journey, I now blissfully dwell in it. I realize now that if things came easy then I wouldn’t appreciate my blessings as much as I do now or worst I wouldn’t recognize them. I have managed to conquer each storm that i’ve ever been confronted with. While I’m not where I want to be just yet, I am definitely not where I was.

I learned early on that you can complain and complain about things until your face turns blue. But if in the end if all you did was waste your time complaining then you will find yourself still in the same exact predicament. No progression. Rationally thinking, life will indeed sometimes grab you by the throat and leave you grasping for air. However, if you allow yourself to be choked then you WILL be choked….and eventfully die. I don’t know about you guys but I’m not going out like that. So I prepare now. I make sure that I am guarded and equipped with all the necessary weapons, so that when life tries his hand, I got something for his ass.

The sour part of life is simply a test. Sort of like the SAT’s; a test to show you where you stand. It’s an outline that shows you where you need to improve in order to successfully reach the sweet. If you do not so hot the first time, just dust your pretty little bottom off, prepare, and be ready for the next opportunity to take a stab at it.

We all are sour patch kids…. sour in the beginning, sweet in the end.

Color In Blue…

2 Mar

On this blog, the only things that get posted are things that I care about. “Color in Blue” stands for letting you guys into my world, my thoughts, my likes, and my dislikes. So this is not a place where you will find the latest and juiciest news, rather the things in which excites me. I think I’m a pretty cool kid so hopefully my interests will be of some interest to you.

2/25/11 – 2/27/11

My weekend will be…. adventurous to say the least. First its Stephie’s birthday Friday night in DC, next it’s “Rip The Runway” Saturday night in NYC, then back to DC on Sunday for an event with Jive’s new artist Jawan Harris.

Let’s pray this 5 hour energy drink lives up to its name….

I attempted to take a pic of the view of NYC at night…However, considering the light in the room this is what came out instead. Pretty dope…

Don’t be Afraid to be GREAT!

15 Feb

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

My Life at Jive….

10 Feb

I started here at Jive Records over a month ago. Since then, I have been surrounded by music. Exposed to artists who on a normal occasion I wouldn’t bother to listen to. I’ve been forced to open my mind, listen, and subjectively critique artists and groups from all different categories of music.

To name a few….

ROCK:

Cage The Elephant – I just recently got the chance to listen to their latest album, “Thank You, Happy Birthday”. Being a rock band, I was reluctant to admit that it was pretty good. Not sure if I am ready to be titled a fan just yet, but we will see.

Urban POP:

Jacob Latimore – Remember when Chris Brown first popped on the scene with “Run It”? He was this cute kid with an impeccable smile that had the confidence of a star even as a newcomer. His demeanor claimed his destiny. For lack of a better word, he simply had “it”. Jacob Latimore has “it”.

Soul:

Adele – When I first heard her new single, “To the Deep”, I turned to my supervisor and asked, “Ok, why hasn’t she blown up yet?” Not taking away her success to date, I simply want to know why isn’t she mentioned with the greats yet? Too soon? I beg to differ. While her career hasn’t dwelled yet, her voice is clearly from an era where the souls did the singing. An era which has been non- existent since the introduction to autotune and 808′s that pump so hard that you are fooled into liking a song. If we go back a few, Adele will stand as a “GREAT”

Pop:

Adam Lambert – Former 2009 American Idol runner Up. Adam is a young pop artist with a funky style and vocal range that dares to be challenged. He is an openly gay artist who is not afraid to be him self. His style takes me back to the 80′s and encourages me to befriend a thrifter. He has my stamp of approval.

Urban pop:

Jawan Harris – Another young newcomer, Jawan has the vocals that over time will be a force. Taken under the wing by Chris Brown, I am anxious to see his progression over the years.
